A short history

The Church on Arthur Avenue

The church was built in the 1970s as Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. For five decades it did what a neighborhood church does: worship, weddings, funerals, and families known by name.

Melvin's uncle, Pastor Floyd Jones, led the congregation. His transition left the church as an inheritance, and it now carries a new name and a new owner: The Bridge International, led by Apostle Melvin Green and Pastor Johnell Jones.

Apostle Melvin Green was born and raised in Pontiac, the son of Melvin Green Sr. and Mother Judy Green. His mother has been part of this ministry from the beginning. When The Bridge named Pontiac its pilot city, this is the building the work came home to.

Already in Use

In 2026 the building became the meeting place for the Pontiac work: a marketplace workshop in May, a no-cost community resource day in July, and Sunday worship with visiting leaders in August.

The Work Has Started

A 1970s building carries 1970s systems. Revitalization is underway, local contractors are providing part of the work at cost, and this campaign closes the gap. That is why the goal is $20,000 and why every pledge goes further.

What It Makes Possible

A place to worship. A sanctuary that is safe, sound, and open to everyone who walks up Arthur Avenue.

A place to connect. Room for mentors and marketplace leaders, elders and young families, neighbors who know each other by name.

A place for community functions. Resource days, roundtables, and gatherings, with room to hold more as the Pontiac work grows.
